The Zeiss Projector
Morehead opened its doors with the gold standard for planetarium technology in 1949. Now, Morehead is investing in fulldome video technology, the new gold standard.
Zeiss, a German company, was the preeminent manufacturer of planetarium projectors in the world. However, the ravages of World War II had destroyed most of their factories. Finding a projector was so difficult, Morehead traveled to Sweden—where he had previously served as American ambassador—to procure one. He was able to purchase a Zeiss Model II, which was in use at Morehead Planetarium for the next 20 years. In 1969, it was replaced by the Zeiss Model VI.
