Education: Senior, English and Religious Studies with a music minor
Hometown: Spout Springs, NC
Experience With Children: I am a North Carolina Teaching Fellow, so my education has been organized around children. During undergrad, I have tutored high school math and English, as well as tutored kindergarten for a year. Last school year, 2011-2012, I was a volunteer at MAP. I have also been a camp counselor at a Jordan Lake day camp and worked at summer church camps.
Goals for School Year and Career: Currently, I plan to attend a grad school for secondary education (hopefully at Wake Forest, Duke, or NYU). I want to start my teaching career in Middle School and eventually move up to High School. I may take a gap year between undergrad and graduate school to go volunteer at an organization in South Africa, known as the Door of Hope, or go teach English abroad for the year.
Hobbies/ Fun Fact: (1) I can dog whistle (2) I have hitchhiker’s thumb (3) I can from standing to a handstand to a back bend (taught by a little MAP friend). I like Reading, Singing in the Shower, Running, Playing my Flute
Why did you choose to work at Morehead?:Since I volunteered at MAP last year, I got really attached to the kids. They really made me second guess my decision to pursue secondary education. When Kyle offered me a job, the obvious answer was yes!
