BECOME A SUPER HERO OF SCIENCE!
Super heroes of science are preparing to save the world! When they grow up, they become the scientists, researchers and medical professionals who find ways to make our world a better place.
Is there a young Super Hero of Science in your family? Morehead offers exciting one-week camp sessions for grades K-8. Camp activities focus on science themes and are led by UNC students and graduates, trained to provide a safe and fun educational environment for your child.
What's SUPER about Morehead Summer Science Camps?
- Hands-on science exploration, recreation and science themed crafts
- Enriching science camp curricula developed at UNC
- Convenient and easy for parents, with three great locations and extended care options
Morehead's UNC campus site offers half-day camps for grades K-8. This is the original site for Summer Science Camps at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.
Morehead's SCIVENTURES site offers a full-day science exploration program for grades 6-8. SciVentures is based at the Carolina Center for Educational Excellence, which is adjacent to Smith Middle School in Chapel Hill.
Morehead's Research Triangle Park (RTP) site offers full-day camps for grades K-8. The RTP site is based at Kestrel Heights Charter School, near the intersection of N.C. 54 and N.C. 55 -- a very convenient location for parents who work in RTP!
Each of the three sites -- UNC, SciVentures and RTP -- has its own schedule and pricing. To help you identify information that is specific to each site, Morehead has marked every page at the top with "UNC," "SciVentures" or "RTP." (Some pages provide information for more than one site.) You'll also see separate sections in the menu column at right for "UNC and SciVentures Site Information" (both are in Chapel Hill) and for "RTP Site Information."

Registration guidelines
Registration is exclusively online! Morehead's online registration system offers several major advantages, including real-time camp availability information and instant confirmation emails.
You'll find the registration button at the top of this column. The registration button is only available on this Camp Overview page.
The registration button will become clickable for public registration on Feb. 19 at 12 noon. If you click the registration button before registration opens, you will be returned to this Camp Overview page.
Register in three simple steps:
-
CHOOSE YOUR CAMPS.
Use the printable master schedule and camp descriptions to choose the camps that match your child's grade level and interests and your family’s summer schedule. (If you have more than one child whom you would like to register for camp, you can register them both in a single online session.) -
USE ONLINE REGISTRATION TO RESERVE YOUR CAMPS.
Click the registration button at the top of this column to begin, and follow the instructions within the system.
Registration begins by selecting whether your child will attend camps in Chapel Hill or in RTP. -
SUBMIT REQUIRED FORMS TO MOREHEAD TO CONFIRM YOUR CAMPS.
Open the confirmation email you will receive after registration, and print the attachments -- the camp contract, health form and other camp forms. Complete these forms and return them to Morehead's camp office immediately.
Morehead reserves the right to cancel your registration if these forms are not submitted within two weeks of your registration. Your child cannot attend camp unless these forms are completed, signed and returned.
Please note: You are not allowed to register your child for the same camp title more than once per summer. For example, you may not register one child for the camp titled "Fun and Games" in two different weeks.
Waiting lists
If the camp you have chosen is already full, please consider joining the waiting list. If an opening occurs before the camp begins and you are next on the waiting list for that camp, a Morehead camp staff member will call you to ask if you want to claim that opening.
Age and grade levels
Morehead Summer Science Camps match age-appropriate grade levels in North Carolina public schools. For example, if your child will enter fourth grade in fall 2013, your child is eligible to attend any camp under the "Grades 4–5" listing.
You must register your child for a camp designed for the grade he or she will enter in fall 2013. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule. This ensures the best possible academic and social environment for all campers.
