Lisa S.
Education: UNC- Chapel Hill Class of 2012

Hometown: Wilson, NC

Experience with Children: I have been a nanny for many families since I was 13. I was also able to teach summer camps with Morehead Planetarium last summer and had a blast getting to work with kids of all ages! I have also tutored and mentored children of various backgrounds.

Goals for Summer and Career: This summer I hope to have a wonderful and fun last summer in Chapel Hill. I love teaching children and I love science, so spending it working at Morehead Planetarium is perfect for me! After this summer I will be headed to Denver, Colorado to work with a faith-based non-profit organization for four months. I’ll be working with single mothers and their children helping them build and maintain a sustainable lifestyle for their families. My hope is that this opportunity will give me more experience towards my future career of family counseling. Next fall in 2013 I will be attending graduate school at UNC-G for marriage and family counseling.

Hobbies/Fun Fact: Apart from hanging out and teaching children, I really love to dance. I have been dancing since I was 3 years old and still keep it up today. I was a part of two dance groups during my time at UNC and have spent many hours choreographing, rehearsing, and performing with the other members. I also love to cook and experiment with different ingredients though as a college student with a tight budget those ingredients tend to be the same, so in essence I have only managed to figure out how many ways I can mix rice, beans, chips, cheese, salsa, eggs, and avocado. It’s a good thing these are also all my favorite foods!

Why did you choose to work at Morehead? As I mentioned earlier, I love teaching children and I love science and Morehead Planetarium is a wonderful opportunity to do both!
