Experience with Children: This is my third summer working at the Morehead Summer Science Camps, and I have also been working as an afterschool educator at the planetarium for a year and a half.
Goals for Summer and Career: The more you learn, the more you realize how much there is in the world left to discover – learning gives you the tools for more learning. Summer camps like this one provide the opportunity for kids to open these windows for themselves, and I want to help bring out and cultivate the talent and curiosity that all of them have. I also will never forget how important summer is for kids, and know that they’re spending valuable vacation time here with us at the Morehead. I want to make sure that they get the most out of this time and leave with great memories. As for myself, after I finish college I plan on either going into teaching high school, or pursuing a PhD in English and (eventually) becoming a college professor.
Hobbies/Fun Fact: My hair color has been the start of many debates. Is it blonde? Strawberry blonde? Light brown? Green? You decide.
Why did you choose to work at Morehead? I don’t know any other college students who love their job as much as I do (except the other Morehead counselors, of course). I’m incredibly lucky to be able to teach, play, and bond with kids on such a regular basis, and if it wasn’t my job I would probably volunteer anyway. I mentioned earlier how valuable summer camps can be for kids, but they’re also incredibly worthwhile for counselors, and I know that my time here will provide me with truly irreplaceable memories (it already has).
