Addie Jo S.
Education: UNC Class of 2011- Bachelors of Arts in Physics with an education concentration

Hometown: Granite Falls, NC

Experience with Children: I have volunteered and worked with children throughout middle school, high school, and college, including seven summers working at camps. For the past three years, and much more extensively this year, I’ve worked with the thousands of students who come to MPSC on field trips. I’ve also worked some with our afterschool program this year and years past.

Goals for Summer and Career: My goals for the summer are to get to know an amazing group of counselors, admin staff, and campers; to be in as many places as I can to help out with the awesome science we’ll be doing; and to see a great start to our camps at our RTP site. I’m happy for my career goals to be a little undefined right now. I just want to be in a place where I can help people and teach them about the fascinating and beautiful universe in which we live.

Hobbies/Fun Fact: My hobbies include: watching all the episodes off-air TV shows (I’m currently on season 2 of Friends), reading books aimed at age groups that aren’t mine (I just finished The Fault in Our Stars and The Count of Monte Cristo), and spending exorbitant amounts of time in my hammock. Fun Fact: I’ve been to 17 cathedrals.

Why did you choose to work at Morehead? After working at the same camp for five years in my hometown, I wanted someplace new to be. Chapel Hill in the summer is wonderful, despite being abusively hot and humid, and my interest in science made Morehead the perfect place.
