Happy 60th Anniversary, Morehead!posted Friday May 1, 2009
Morehead Planetarium and Science Center celebrates its 60th anniversary on May 10, 2009, with a special gift to the people of North Carolina: $1 admission to any regularly-scheduled planetarium show at Morehead beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2009, and continuing until 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2009, while seats are available.
The gift honors the legacy of John Motley Morehead III, who presented the planetarium as a gift to the people of North Carolina in 1949. The planetarium is a landmark on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus.
Morehead has scheduled each of the following planetarium shows at least once during the anniversary celebration:
- Carolina Skies
- Destination: Space
- Life in the Universe
- Magic Tree House® Space Mission
- Sol & Company
- Solar System Adventure
Seating is limited to 240 per show and may not be reserved in advance. Once all tickets for a show are sold, the discount will no longer be available for that showtime, and "rainchecks" will not be issued for sold-out shows.
The same special value applies to adults and children. No other discounts or coupons may be applied to the special value. Of course, Morehead members are admitted free!
Please note: UNC-Chapel Hill celebrates Commencement ceremonies on the same weekend, and the University has reserved the campus parking lot in front of Morehead for activities related to Commencement. Morehead visitors can find alternate parking in metered spaces on Franklin Street and in parking lots and decks operated by the Town of Chapel Hill on Rosemary Street, just one block from Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.
