What’s special about Morehead Summer Science Camps?

Imagine your child on campus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill — learning about science, creating science-themed crafts, enjoying indoor and outdoor recreation, meeting new friends — with guidance from UNC undergraduate students who have completed Morehead’s intensive camp counselor training program.

It’s a unique and wonderful experience among area day camps!

Morehead has new openings in some Summer Science Camps that were previously full!

As of May 21, the camp lists have been updated to show newly-available camps for each grade level. Click on the links to the camp descriptions in the right sidebar to see these openings.

Online registration continues for available camps. Camp contracts and forms are due to Morehead within two weeks from the time you complete your registration. Morehead will host a Camp Open House in late May or early June to orient campers and their parents to Summer Science Camps.

Morehead offers one-week (Monday–Friday) camps and programs:

• Traditional half-day camps for grades K–8.
  Choose a morning camp (9 a.m.–12 noon),
  an afternoon camp (1–4 p.m.) or both!

• SciVentures full-day programs (9 a.m.–4 p.m.) for grades 6–8.

Please check the Master Schedule (there's a link in the right sidebar) or individual links for each grade level to see which camps are available each week. Morehead reserves the right to cancel a camp session if enrollment is low.

Morehead Summer Science Camps match age-appropriate grade levels in North Carolina public schools. For example, if your child will enter fourth grade in fall 2009, your child is eligible to attend any camp under the “Grades 4–5” listing.

You must register your child for a camp designed for the grade he or she will enter in fall 2009. There are NO EXCEPTIONS. This ensures the best possible academic and social environment for all campers.

Each parent registers his or her child for Morehead Summer Science Camps through an online registration system (administered by CampRegister).

This system, which Morehead began using in 2008, allows you to register one or more children during a single online session. You can access this system through a link on Morehead’s Web site.

Morehead camps fill quickly. If the camp you want for your child is full, you may choose to join the waiting list for that camp. Although Morehead cannot guarantee there will be openings, last-minute cancellations do create openings in many camps.

If an opening occurs before the camp begins and you are next on the waiting list, a Morehead camp staff member will call you to ask if you want to claim that opening.

Morehead Planetarium and Science Center members are eligible for benefits that include early registration (through Feb. 9 at 9 a.m.) AND a credit toward camp fees! Check the "Member Benefits" link in the right sidebar for more information.
