In 2008, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center promises the best Summer Science Camps ever — with a new online registration system, special three-day camps for grades K–5 and the exciting new SciVentures full-day program for middle-school campers.

MPSC’s camps are fun, educational and designed to provide the best possible learning environment for your child, using the resources of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. How popular are the camps? In 2007, enrollment grew by more than 65 percent!

This year, MPSC has partnered with CampRegister.com to provide a new online registration system for Summer Science Camps. This system offers lots of new features that parents have requested (for example, you can now register several children during a single login). CampRegister.com has worked with many camps nationally and is known for its stable registration system.

Please read the information in this section carefully. It’s your key to choosing the right camps for your child, registering successfully and understanding camp policies.

Camp schedules

In 2008, MPSC offers several different camp schedules, including some new opportunities:

• Traditional half-day camps for grades K–8. These camps run for a full week, Monday through Friday. You can choose a morning camp (9 a.m.–12 noon) or an afternoon camp (1–4 p.m.). You can also combine a morning camp with an afternoon camp to create a full day of camp activities for your child.
• NEW! Full-day, short-week camps for grades K–5. These full-day camps (9 a.m.–4 p.m.) run for three days only during two select weeks (June 11–13 sessions and June 30–July 2 sessions).
• NEW! SciVentures for grades 6–8. This special full-day program runs for a full week, Monday through Friday, during select weeks. SciVentures is a special program rather than a camp; however Morehead is managing SciVentures with the same camp registration tools. Look for more details on the SciVentures information page.

You are encouraged to read the camp descriptions for your child’s grade level, check your calendar to be sure there are no conflicts with school dates or family vacations and talk with your child about the camp activities that interest him or her. Register as soon as possible, using the online registration system, when registration begins.
